Bonnie Lee Porter

Funeral Services: Saturday, October 22, 2011 at 12:00 Noon Interment: Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery Repast: Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church Mrs. Bonnie Lee Martin Porter was born in  Morgan, GA on March 23, 1919.  She was the third of eleven children born to Green and Pearl  Martin. She was educated in the public schools of Randolph County.  At an early age, she confessed Christ and became a member of Mount Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, Shellman, GA. In 1938 she married Wilson Porter.   From this union, six children were born.  She also moved her membership to Mount Nebo Missionary Church in Morgan, GA. Mama, as she was affectionately called by her grandchildren and others, was a wonderful homemaker and baker. She made the best caramel cakes, German chocolate cake and egg custards, which everybody loved.  She worked for many years as a bus driver for the Randolph County Board of Education.  She served as secretary of Mt. Nebo for over 30 years.  She was secretary of Puritan Chapter No. 80, OES for 20 years.  She was president of the Mission Department for 10 years and was also Church Mother for 10 years.  She served faithfully until her health began to decline. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wilson Porter, Sr.;  one son, J. C. Porter;  two granddaughters;  one great grandson;  one great, great granddaughter;  and six siblings.  She leaves to cherish her memories, five children: Senella P. Spann, Morgan, GA; Wilson (Fannie) Porter, Jr.,  Clemmons, NC;  R. D. Porter, Shellman, GA; Bernice (Benny) Martin, West Topsham, VT; James R. (Mary) Porter, Woodbridge, VA; one sister, Annie R. Butler, Cuthbert, GA; two brothers, Robert Martin, Opa Locka, FL; C. W. Martin, Hartford, CT; 21 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
