Coley Clark, Jr. Pastor, OfficiatingDec. Martin Embry, Sr. was born on July 24, 1935 in Randolph County to the late George and Mary Embry. He departed his life on June 5, 2015 at Southwest Georgia Medical Center in Cuthbert, GA at 2:30 p.m. Where he was surrounded by his wife and granddaughter. He preceded in death by one sister, Christine (Reather) Bryant, one brother George (Barbara) Embry and his only daughter Jennifer Embry.Martin attended the Randolph County Training School of Cuthbert, GA where he graduated in 1954. After graduation Martin joined the Army, during his service time he was an active member of the Korean War. After leaving the military in 1957, he worked at J & J Venear Company for numerous years. Martin then worked for the Marine Corps Logistic Base until he retired in 1992.He joined the Mt. Vernon Missionary Baptist Church at an early age in 1944 and served faithfully until his death. He was very active in his church and served in many capacities.Martin was a social and community activist who believed and fought for change in his community. He served as Randolph County Commissioner of District 3 from 1993 until 2008.On January 4, 1958 Martin married the love of his life, Ruby Shirley Brookins and to this union four children were born.Martin Embry is known as “Buster” to his family and friends.He leaves to cherish his memories his loving wife, Ruby Shirley Embry: three sons, Johnny (Dorothy) Embry of Cuthbert, GA, Martin (Loretta) Embry and Ricky (Angela) Embry of Jacksonville, FL: one sister, Mary (Elgin) Washington, nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
