Mable Crawford

Sister Mable Jackson Crawford was born to the late Essie Mae Jackson Willis in Cuthbert Randolph County Georgia October 19, 1923; the eldest of four children. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at the Antioch Missionary Baptist where she served faithfully until her health declined. She was a member of Antioch Choir II for many years. She was educated in the Randolph County School System. She began her teaching career in Randolph County in 1943, received her B.S. degree from Albany State University in 1953, and retired from the Randolph County School System in 1980. For over 37 years she dedicated her life and wisdom to the children of Randolph County. In 2015 Mayor Steve Whatley proclaimed October 19, 2015 as “Mable J. Crawford Day.” She was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Jimmie L. Crawford July 3, 1941 ~a loving marriage of 56 years until his passing October 11, 1997. She was an Emeritus Member of the Randolph County Retired Educators Association where she held the position of Membership Chairperson until 2013, a life member of the Georgia Retired Educators Association, a member of the Socialite Club and the AARP. She loved reading and gardening and was extremely organized in all aspects of her life and affiliations. Sister Mable Crawford entered her eternal resting place Monday December 12, 2016 at the Southwest Georgia Regional Medical Center in Cuthbert, GA. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Julius Willis and Willie Willis. Amidst our sorrow and grief, we pause to give thanks to God for her 93 years on Earth with us. She leaves to cherish her memories her sister, Ruth Thaxton, Cuthbert, GA; two sisters-in-law, Ethel Crawford Wynn, Atlanta, GA and Jessie Ruth Willis, Springfield, MA; nephews, Anthony (Robin) Bunns, Springfield, MA, Floyd (Linda) Willis, Durham, NC and Eddie C. (Annie) Howard Jr., Cuthbert, GA; nieces, Ruthie and Gwen Willis, Springfield, MA, Judy (G.W.) Edwards, Edison, GA and Janis (Dennis) Gilbert, Cuthbert, GA; god-daughter and caregiver Everene Nancy Evans, Cuthbert, GA; other nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
