Derrics Lavarah Shorter,Sr was born on September 10, 1958 in Cuthbert, GA. He was the son of the late Dukes Alexander Shorter, Sr. and the late Odessa Johnson Burkes. He departed his life on June 29, 2017 at Southwest Georgia Regional Medical Center. He attended the public school in Randolph County and graduated from a Job Corp. program in El Paso, Texas. Derrics joined Virgil Chapel Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. He was employed for many years with the City of Cuthbert, and later moving to Atlanta, GA. to work for Saddle Creek Corp. Upon getting ill, He moved back to Cuthbert, GA. to be close to family. Preceded in death by his brother, Dukes Shorter and his granddaughter De’Cailah Shorter. He leaves to cherish his memories: five daughters, Shundrikus Postell of Morrow, GA., Shakelia Shorter (Trenton Vaughn Sr.) of Cuthbert, GA., Kotrevia Shorter of Lakeland, FL., DeJuanna (Willie) Davis of Fort Gaines, GA., Shanice Shorter of Atlanta, GA.; Four sons: Cameo Jones Sr. of Cocoa, FL., Cordaria (Shabrekia) Shorter of Dothan, AL., Demetrius Coleman of Cuthbert, GA., and Derrics (Quashondria James) Shorter Jr. of Lumpkin, GA.; Four Sisters: Peppi Webb, Kimmye Edwards, and Vonda Webb of Cuthbert, GA. and Pamela Figueroa of Easton, PA.; Two adopted brothers: Rashard and Marquese Burkes of Cuthbert, GA., Twelve grandchildren, Three Aunts, Thelma Shorter of Decatur, GA, Juanita (Samuel) Williams of Montezuma, GA., and Lillie-Mae Fillingame of Cuthbert, GA.; Uncles, A very special cousin/brother, Choice Fillingame, a number of other relatives and friends. A few special caregivers: Shirley Knighton, Aleshia Fields, and Katona Edwards. A devoted and caring friend/ brother Bragg (BJ) Brookins.
