Alberta Vinson

August 26, 1942 — May 17, 2026

Columbus, GA

Alberta Vinson, affectionately known as Bert, passed away peace- fully on May 17, 2026, at Columbus Hospice in Columbus, Georgia. Born Alberta Shingles on August 26, 1942, in Morris, GA, she lived a life marked by grace, strength, and an enduring legacy of love that touched all who were fortunate to know her.

A proud graduate of Kagler School, Alberta's formative years in Morris laid the foundation for a lifetime dedicated to family, faith, and community. Her passage from this world marks the closing of a remarkable chapter that began with her birth to Climmie Morris and Ralph Shingles—her beloved parents now departed—and continued through a journey enriched by deep familial bonds and steadfast devotion.

Alberta's heart was as expansive as her spirit. She was a devoted wife to the late Jim F. Vinson, whose companionship and partnership were central to many of her cherished memories. Together, they nurtured a family that has grown into a vibrant testament to their shared values. Among her children are Jim F. Vinson (son, survived), Melissa Suggs (daughter), Brenda Thomas (daughter), Sabrina Vinson-Denton (daughter), Vickey Vinson (daughter), and Mildred Dorsey (daughter). While grieving the loss of her son Tyrone Vinson, who preceded her in death, her living family stands as a tribute to her unwavering love and dedication.

Her siblings, Lula Morris, Gussie Morris, Clifford Morris, Shela Morgan, and Mrs. Peters, continue Alberta’s legacy of familial closeness, alongside her extended family — nieces Caroline Lee, Mrs. Patricia (friend and neighbor), and nephews Omar Bryant, Ken Lee, B.B Lee, and her brother Dr. Salman Elawad, as well as Mrs. Maa Elawad, another cherished sister. The generations that follow, including grandchildren Kim Dorsey, Kebway Dorsey, Kineka Dorsey, Kenyatta Driver, Kareem Dorsey, Seth Thomas, Chame Thomas, Ethan Thomas, Isaac Denton, Ian Denton, and son-in-law Larry Denton, all bear witness to the nurturing spirit

Alberta so freely gave. Alberta Vinson’s life was a mosaic of heartfelt connections and enduring impact. Her memory will forever be a blessing, treasured deeply by those who knew her as a beloved mother, sister, grand- mother, and friend. In her passing, we find both sorrow in our loss and inspiration in the beautiful legacy she leaves behind—one defined by love, resilience, and a profound grace that illuminated every path she walked.

May she rest in eternal peace, embraced by the same infinite love she so generously bestowed upon all.
