Annie Pearl Evans was born August 12, 1937 to the late Deacon Willie James McClendon and Para Lee Lewis in Shellman, Georgia. Following a prolonged illness, her journey in this life ended at her residence in Columbus, Georgia on May 7, 2018.
She was united in matrimony to the late Lee Charles Evans, Sr. and to this union four children were born. She was preceded in death by her eldest son, Moses Lewis; her eldest sister Minnie Lewis; and a brother James Berry.
Mother Evans worked as a registered nurse early in her career at St. Joseph’s and Passaic County Community Hospital in Paterson, NJ. After retiring from nursing she returned with her family to Cuthbert, GA in 1972, where she worked two jobs, a housekeeper at Paterson Hospital and a cook at Irwin Motel. Later, she worked at Water Wheel Motel as a housekeeper. Upon retiring from the workforce, she dedicated her time in providing prison ministry through the church. She also enjoyed providing assistance to the elderly by providing comfort and care to the sick and shut-in, until she was no longer able. She loved to converse with family and friends and had a strong passion to fellowship with the saints; but her favorite pastime was fishing. Other then attending church, fishing was a high priority.
She confessed Christ at an early age, after returning home with her family, she joined Mt. Avery Baptist Church of Shellman, GA. Later, she became a member of Embassies of Deliverance in Cuthbert, GA. She later joined Empowerment Temple where she was a faithful servant before moving to Columbus, GA in 2016. It was here that she not only became a faithful member but is the founder of Living Hope Praise & Worship Center. It was there that she continued her dedication to being a strong follower of the Lord until her passing.
She leaves to cherish her memories: Willie James Lewis of Augusta, GA; Charles Lewis (Dianne) of Columbus, GA; Lorenzo Lewis of Cuthbert, GA one grandson she raised from birth as her son, Donte Alexander of Columbus, GA; three daughters, Gloria Jean Lewis of Paterson, NJ, Beverly Ann Lewis-Joiner (Richard) of Chesapeake, VA; Jacqueline Mae Lewis of McDonough, GA; fifteen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many loving friends.
In her final days she was so excited to receive visits, phone calls, and text messages from all who contacted her. Those were very important to her and uplifting to her spirit.
