Carnell Shingles, Jr.

With hearts full of both sorrow and deep gratitude, we remember and celebrate the remarkable life of Carnell Shingles, Jr., who departed this world on July 14, 2026, at the Wilson Hospice House in Albany, Georgia. Born on September 1, 1947, in the close-knit community of Cuthbert, Georgia, Carnell’s journey was defined by faith, unwavering dedication, and a profound love for family and community.

Carnell’s early years in Cuthbert were shaped by the bonds of family and the values instilled by his beloved parents, the late Carnell and Allie Shingles. He was educated at Henderson High School, where he graduated with the illustrious Class of 1968. These formative years provided him with friendships and principles that would serve as the foundation for his lifelong service to others.

Carnell’s professional life was marked by decades of loyal service at Proctor and Gamble in Albany, Georgia. He distinguished himself as a dedicated employee whose integrity and steadfastness earned the respect of colleagues and supervisors alike. Beyond his vocation, it was Carnell’s spiritual commitment that illuminated his days and touched the lives of all who knew him.

Deeply faithful, Carnell was a pillar within Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church. He served diligently as a Deacon and shared his gift of song as a cherished member of the choir. Guided by his steadfast belief and a calling he could not deny, Carnell took yet another step in his spiritual journey when he answered God’s call to the Ministry. On March 29, 2015, he delivered his initial sermon, titled, “How Strong Is Your Faith?”—a question that not only reflected the strength of his own conviction but also inspired all who witnessed his devotion and humility. This milestone stands as a testament to Carnell’s obedience and unwavering commitment to serving the Lord.

Carnell’s love for his family remained a constant light throughout his life. He is remembered with great affection by his brother Arthur Shingles; nieces Michele (Rubben) Wilson, Sandra (Terrance) Vaughn, Gloria (Choice) Fillingame, and Marissa (Terrance) Wright; nephews John Shingles, Juankell Shingles, Mark Sampson, Kenneth Martin, Shaun Martin, and Lemill Lane. The ties that bind his family are strengthened forever by memories of his nurturing spirit.

He now joins in eternal rest those who went before him: his father Carnell Shingles, Sr., mother Allie Shingles, brothers Lindberg Sampson and Castalow Shingles, sister Annie Martin, niece Jada Martin, and niece Natesha Lashay Johnson. Their spirits rejoice in reunion, while his memory lingers lovingly in the hearts of all who remain.

To know Carnell Shingles, Jr. was to encounter a man of rare integrity, quiet strength, and gentle humor. His faith and labor have left a legacy that will outlast the fleeting trials of earthly life—a legacy alive in every life he touched, every song he sang, and every sermon he delivered with truth and conviction.
