Charlie C. Crowley, Jr., affectionately known as "Mr. C," passed away on May 17, 2026, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. Born on May 29, 1950, in Calhoun County, he was a lifelong figure cherished within his community for his warm and engaging spirit. Those who crossed paths with Charlie quickly realized he was a man of unique charm, never forgetting a face and gifting everyone he met with a personalized nickname. His presence was a familiar one, often seen leisurely watching the city go by, a pastime that occasionally held up traffic but always brought a smile to onlookers. He found joy in relaxing while listening to music and greeting everyone who passed by, embodying the heart of the neighborhood.
Charlie graduated from Henderson High School as a member of the class of 1968. Early in his career, he worked at Burgin Lumber Company before answering the call of public service. He became a dedicated employee of the Randolph County Sheriff's Department, where he served with distinction as Chief Jailer for several years until his retirement. His commitment to his work reflected his deep sense of responsibility and care for those he served alongside.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Constance Starling Crowley, whom he married in 1973, and their daughters: Tara (Jimmy) Williams and Tandra Crowley, both residing in Warner Robins, GA; and Barbara (Kevin) Anderson of Chicago, IL. Charlie took great pride in his family, which includes his sister, Georgia "Peaches" Stephens of McDonough, GA, and his brothers William "Dub" (Mary) Crowley of Ft. Wayne, IN; Melvin Crowley and Marvin Crowley, both of West Palm Beach, FL; as well as Frank Bethel and Victor Bethel, both of Atlanta, GA. His legacy continues through his grandchildren—Jalyn Williams, Tiara Williams, Timara Williams (Cameron) Staten, Jeremy Anderson, and Symone Anderson—and his great-grandchildren Jaycee Martinez-Williams and Autumn Staten. He was also cherished by a host of nieces and nephews.
Charlie was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Annie Bell Martin Crowley; his brother Theodore Holsey; and Roosevelt and Annie Ree Martin Butler, affectionately known as "Lil Ma," his grandparents who raised him.
Throughout his life, Charlie C. Crowley was a cornerstone of kindness and connection, and his loss leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be remembered for his stead- fast character, his warmth, and the genuine affection he showed to his community and family.
