A Time to Be Born: Clara was born January 8, 1930 to the late Willie and Lee Shingles in Cuthbert, Randolph County, Georgia. She was affectionately called “Sally” by all who knew and loved her. A Time to Learn and Serve: Clara attended Randolph County Schools and joined Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Cuthbert at an early age. She was a faithful member, who served as the Mother of the Church, until her health failed. A Time to Love and Grow: Clara married the late Ulysses Bletcher and to this union two children were born: W. C. Bletcher and Joseph Bletcher. Later, Clara had three more children: Lewis Shingles, Gladys Pinkins, and Willie C. Cladd. Clara later married the late J. C. Alford and to this union, three children were born: Eunice, Allen, and James. A Time to Mourn: Clara departed this life October 8, 2019 at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Georgia. Clara was preceded in death by two children: W. C. Bletcher and Joseph Bletcher; and two siblings: Rev. Lester Shingles and Sister Willie Lee Mills. Clara leaves to cherish her memories: six beloved children: James Alford, Atlanta, GA, Allen (Janice), Albany, GA, Gladys Pinkins, Camilla, GA, Eunice Hardwick, Lewis Shingles, Willie C. Cladd, all of Cuthbert; five siblings: Annie (Isaac) Cannon, Cuthbert, GA, Jethro (Solone) Shingles and Johnny (Linda) Shingles, both of Atlanta, GA, Wilburn (Earlene) Shingles, Columbus, GA, and J. D. Shingles, Miami, FL. Thirty-five grandchildren, twenty-six great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and dear friends.
