With quiet strength and a heart full of love, Floyd Bennie Burks passed away on April 11, 2025, surrounded by family and held in grace. A devoted husband, proud father, loving brother, and faithful friend, Floyd left behind a legacy of compassion, hard work, and quiet wisdom that will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
Born on February 12, 1950 to the late Arthur Lee and Toby Mae Burks, Floyd dedicated his life to the people and values he held dear. Guided by a steadfast faith, he found purpose and community at Benevolence Baptist Church, where he served with quiet strength and a generous spirit. He lived his life not just in words, but in everyday acts of kindness, encouragement, and unwavering presence for those around him.
Floyd was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur Lee and Toby Mae Burks; his wife, Dorothea Burks; his son, Melvin Wiggins Sr.; his grandson, Melvin Wiggins Jr.; four brothers, Arthur James Burks, Moses Burks, Eddie Burks, and Curlie Lee Burks; three sisters, Rosie Marie Burks, Beulah Walton, and Bertha Wade. Their memories, along with his, are carried forward in the hearts of all who remain.
He is survived by his loving children, James (Vanessa) Edward Burks, Benevolence, GA., Pamela (Hollis) Douglas, Americus, GA., Katina Colson, Abbeville, GA., Saundra Wiggins, Winder, GA., Tanja (Roland) Taylor-Mckinney, Columbus, GA., Keisha Burkes, Benevolence, GA., Jada Burks, Albany, GA. and Tawanda D. Lemon, New Port Richey, FL; two that he raised as his own, Lisa Roberson, Lakeland, GA. and Chantele Harris, Benevolence, GA.; his siblings, Roy (Martha) Burks, Johnnie (Doris) Burks, Lillie (Lucious) Marcus, Janie Edwards all of Cuthbert, GA., Carolyn (Tommie) Lewis, Hamilton, GA and Susie Burks Sy of Cincinnati, OH; as well as a host of grands, great grands, nieces, nephews and many dear friends and extended family members.
Floyd Bennie Burks leaves behind a life richly lived and deeply cherished. Though he is no longer with us in body, his spirit endures in the lessons he taught, the love he gave, and the countless lives he touched. His quiet strength, enduring faith, and unwavering devotion to family and community will remain a guiding light for generations to come. As we celebrate his life and mourn his passing, we hold fast to the memories and legacy of a truly remarkable man.
