James Brown began his journey on June 14, 1937, born the first child of the union of James and Alma Jean Brown in Quitman, Georgia. As a child he attended school in Thomasville, Georgia. Due to great loss of his parents, he began work at an early age to support his two younger brothers, Walter and Bobby, who preceded him in death. Also preceding him in death was his son, Jeffrey Brown. James was a hard worker, dedicated to making sure his family was provided for. He retired from Peerless Manufactory after thirty years of service. James confessed his life to Christ at an early age and was a member of Benevolence Baptist Church. He also was a member of Saint Thomas Masonic Lodge #70. He leaves cherished memories to his wife of sixty years, Gladys W. Brown; four daughters, Michelle Brown, Karen Brown, Sharon Diggs (Willie), and Mary Virgil of Pavo, Georgia; seven sons, Terry Brown (Janice), Willie Brown (Keshia), Bobby Brown, Charles Mayes (Yolanda), Bryant West, Oscar Johnson (Gloria), and Shawn Johnson; twenty-four grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Sarah McBride (Emory), Johnnie Mae Brown, Ethel Faye Brewer; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many friends.
