Johnny B. Scott

With hearts full of both sorrow and gratitude for a life well-lived, we honor and remember Johnny B. Scott—lovingly known as “Johnny B.”—who passed away peacefully at his home on July 19, 2026. Born on August 31, 1954, in Cuthbert, Georgia, Johnny’s journey was woven with joy, resilience, and the warmth that comes from deep connections to both family and community.

Johnny was the cherished youngest child and only surviving sibling of the Scott family, an endearing role he embraced throughout his days. The son of Hattie Sue and Wilson Scott, Sr., he grew up amidst the familiar rhythm of Cuthbert, surrounded by the love of his parents and siblings—Hubert, Annie Doris, Annie Pearl, Franklin, and Wilson Jr.—all of whom preceded him in passing. Though Johnny is now reunited with them, his legacy endures in the hearts of those left to remember him.

A proud graduate of Randolph County Comprehensive High School, Class of 1973, Johnny was always eager to carve out his place in the world. His boundless ambition led him from Cuthbert to Atlanta at an early age, where he began a long and dedicated career with Delta Airlines. With determination and vision, Johnny purchased his first home in Decatur, Georgia, while still in his early twenties—a testament to his hard work and independence. He called Atlanta home for decades, bringing his zest for life to every moment before eventually returning to his roots in Cuthbert, where he found peace in the familiar embrace of family and friends.

Throughout his journey, Johnny’s vitality and warmth were a beacon for those who knew him. His easy laughter and generous heart touched all he encountered. The love he nurtured for his family was boundless and enduring. He now leaves behind his former wife, Cheryl Scott, and his beloved daughter, Sabrina Scott, both of whom were precious to him beyond words. In addition, he is survived by his caring step-daughter, Lawanna Wimberly, loving nieces and nephews, and countless cousins whose lives were enriched by his presence.

In 2017, Johnny B was diagnosed with advanced-stage laryngeal cancer. The diagnosis was devastating and marked the beginning of a journey in which only God could received the glory. Many medical professionals believed there was little hope, but God had other plans for Johnny B. Not only did he survive an eight-hour surgery that included the removal of the cancer, his voice box, and extensive reconstructive surgery to his neck, but he also overcame numerous life-threatening setbacks in the years that followed, including two collapsed lungs and cardiac arrest, just to name a few.

Johnny B adapted to his new reality remarkable determination and made the best of every day. He was a fighter who was committed to living life on his own terms. He once shared that during his cardiac arrest, he prayed, “God, please give me another chance to see my baby again, Sabrina.” God answered that prayer.

Johnny B love God, and God graciously extended His mercy, allowing him not only to survive but to live eight additional years cancer-free. His life was a testimony of faith, perseverance, and resilience in the face of extraordinary challenges— including the lessons he learned along the way.

Johnny B. Scott’s memory will live on through countless cherished moments, enduring stories, and the legacies of love that echo among all who knew him. While we mourn his departure, we also celebrate a life marked by perseverance, kindness, and an irreplaceable spirit. His journey on this earth may be complete, but the impact of his life will continue to resonate across generations.

As we gather to remember and honor him, may we carry forward Johnny B. Scott’s joy for life and his enduring love for those around him. Though our hearts are heavy, we are forever grateful for having shared this world with him.
