Lorene Brookins Toney, a devoted servant of Jehovah and beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2025 in Miami, Florida at the age of 97.
She was born on September 22, 1927 in Cuthbert, Georgia to John and Georgia Mae Brookins. She was one of nine children, five girls and four boys and she was baptized as one of Jehovah's witnesses on July 1, 1945. She married Clayton Toney with whom she shared many years of marriage, in the late 1950s, they relocated to Miami Florida, where they built a life rooted in faith, family, and love until his passing on April 28, 1978.
Beyond her devotion to family and faith, she was a business owner.
Lorene was known for her kindness and generosity, often extending credit and providing food for families who were in need. Lorene demonstrated the christian spirit of generosity.
Lorene is preceded in death by her husband Clayton, her son John L.Toney and her daughter Patricia Warner.
She is lovingly remembered by her children: Catherine Smith (William), Wealthier Bridges (Joseph), John T. Toney (Mary), Vivian Smith (Orangie), Bobbie Gail Toney (David), and Clayton Toney Jr. (Shirley). She also leaves behind her sister Mary Brookins Butler and her granddaughter Tracy Corley (Darnell) and many beloved grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews, extended family members, and friends who cherished her. She is also lovingly remembered by her daughter in law, Mary Chapman, who adored her.
Lorene's faith as one of Jehovah's Witnesses was the foundation of her life, and she will be remembered for her steadfast devotion, gentle spirit, and the love she poured into her family.
