Martha Lee Burks

Mrs. Martha Lee Burks was born October 28, 1942 to the late Ms. Frances Sarah Lowe and the late Mr. Edmon Matthews in Randolph County.  Martha spent the last 64 years with the love of her life, Mr. Roy Burks. She was affectionately known as his “Honey Pot”. To this union four children were born. Martha served as an active member and devoted servant of the Virgil Chapel Missionary Baptist Church of Cuthbert, GA for the last 70 years. She was able to serve the Lord in many capacities over the years. Most recently she served as the Mother of the Church.

She attended the public-school system in Randolph County. Martha worked in the textile industry for many years, including Carter’s, Kellwood and Riverside. She later became a caregiver for many people in the community. Martha loved spending time with her family and friends, traveling, reading a good book, watching westerns and wrestling, painting her nails and taking trips to town to the local convenience stores. She was a member of the Red Hat Society. She lived her life to the fullest. God saw the garden needed a beautiful flower, so He picked the loveliest one. On May 31, 2025, God called Martha home. She is preceded in death by her parents, daughter in law Carolyn, and great-grandchild, Raphtalia.

Martha’s beautiful life will forever be cherished in the hearts of her loving and devoted husband, Roy Burks; Children: Kimberly Perry (Richard), Michael Burks Sr. (Eriko), Rodney Burks, Frances Brown (John); Bonus Child: Curtis Gibson; Sister: Eddie Mae Lewis (Walter); Sisters in Law: Susie Burks-Sy (Abdourahmane), Janie Edwards, Lillie Marcus (Lucious), Carolyn Lewis (Tommie); Brother in Law, Johnny Burks (Doris); Grandchildren: Johnathan P., Courtney, Jessica, Brianna, Angelina, Michael Jr., Shayla, Rhonda, Rodeshia, Britney (Corderal), Tyrone Jr., Trinity, Ephraim, Jasmine, Johnathan B., Curtis, Nigel, Toby, Gabriel, and Ziyah and a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved her dearly.
