Rashida Jivera Davis

Dr. Rashida Jivera Davis, an esteemed educator and devoted family member, passed away at her home in Decatur, Georgia, on June 23, 2026. She was born on October 4, 1977, in Albany, Georgia, where her journey of service, scholarship, and leadership began and flourished throughout her remarkable life.

From an early age, Rashida demonstrated a zest for learning and leadership. She attended Dougherty Comprehensive High School, where she was actively involved in the school band and notably served as the Dance Line Captain, a testament to her ability to inspire and guide her peers. Her pursuit of excellence continued into higher education, beginning with a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Fort Valley State University. Recognizing the need for continued growth, she earned a Master’s degree in Education from Central Michigan University, followed by a Specialist Degree and ultimately the prestigious Doctor of Education from Argosy University. She was initiated in ETA Chapter of Delta Sigma Beta in spring of 1999 at Fort Valley State University. She was a life-time member of National Alumni Association for Fort Valley State University and Secretary for the Fort Valley Dekalb Alumni Association.

Rashida dedicated her professional life to empowering others through education for an impressive 26 years. She was widely respected by colleagues and students alike for her unwavering commitment to academic excellence and personal growth. Rashida’s dedication did not go unnoticed: she was a Teacher of the Year nominee and embraced the responsibility of a Teacher Leader, always striving to elevate her community and the profession she so deeply loved. As a scholarship recipient from the Dougherty County Association of Educators in 1996, she embodied the hope and determination that would define her career and influence generations of students.

Rashida’s commitment to education was matched by her devotion to her family. She is survived by her parents, Edgar R. Davis and Sherelean S. Davis; two aunts, Ruby Davis and Vera Simmons; her four uncles, Rufus Davis, Jr., Dr. Adam Simmons, Wesley Shorter & Willie Freeman; and her two brothers, Rodney Davis and Rashad Jamal Davis. Her presence as a loving daughter, sibling, and niece enriched the lives of her family, who will always cherish her memory.

She also leaves behind the legacy of those who preceded her in passing: her grandparents, Rufus Davis, Louise Davis, Early Simmons, and Mamie Simmons, as well as her aunts Jacquelyne Shorter, Ruth Freeman, and Vanessa Lee.

Rashida Jivera Davis will be remembered for her steadfast commitment to education, her pursuit of knowledge, and the encouragement she offered to those around her. Her profound impact endures in the achievements of her students, the admiration of her colleagues, and the love of her family.
