Reflections Of His Life

A Time To Be Born
Roosevelt Grier II, son of the late Mose Grier Sr. and Ozie L. Grier was born on May 4, 1957. His lineage can be traced, on his Maternal side, to his Great Grandparents, Martin and Mollie Bell Deleford, Grandparents, Minnie Lee and Sterling Deleford, and Great grandparents, Anderson and Rachael Green. His paternal lineage can be traced to his grandparents, Joseph and Ruthie Bell Grier, and Great Grandparents, Jim and Alberta Grier, and Moses and Emma Newkirk. Roosevelt, (affectionately known as Roe) is the youngest of seven (7) children born to his parents. His oldest brother, Arthur, died at birth. He grew up and lived on the land that was owned by his maternal grandmother, in the Pumpkin Town Community until his late adolescent years. It was at that time, his parents moved the family from the country to the city of Cuthbert, Georgia.

A Time To Grow and Love
He received his education in the Randolph County School System where he graduated with the class of 1975. Following his brother’s footsteps, he attended Andrew College in Cuthbert, Georgia. Moving to New Jersey in 1989, he met and later married his wife, Marie, becoming the Stepfather of her two children, Shakira and Jermaine Harris. He also has a Chosen Daughter, Erica Leslie, and two sons/grandsons Daniel and Xavier Harris. While in New Jersey, he was employed with a construction company. He returned to Cuthbert in 2010 where he resided with his family of orientation until his transition.

A Time To Serve
He accepted Christ as his personal Savior at an early age and became a faithful member of Piney Grove Baptist Church in Cuthbert, Georgia. When he returned to Cuthbert, after leaving New Jersey, he re-connected himself to his church at Piney Grove. He was active in his high school class and served as the Class President. He was friendly, easy to speak with, and often went out of his way to accommodate others. He had numerous health issues, but never allowed that to stop him from making his annual trip back to New Jersey each year, working in his garden, fishing, and helping others.

A Time Of Rest
The final chapter of his life closed on Friday, September 1, 2023, around 10:00 a.m. at the family residence in Cuthbert, Georgia, when the almighty God, in His infinite wisdom called him from labor to reward.

To Cherish His Memories
He will continue to live in the hearts and minds of his loved ones, children, relatives, and friends. He leaves behind his wife, Marie, Stepchildren; Shakira Harris of New Jersey, Jermaine Harris of Pennsylvania, one mChosen Daughter, Erica Leslie of Austin, Texas, two sons/grandsons, Daniel Harris (Shenequa) of Fort Sewart, GA, and Xavier Harris of Cuthbert, GA., one sister, Ruby (John) Watson, of Cuthbert, four (4) brothers, Freddie Grier (Elaine) of Menifee, CA., John Grier of Cuthbert, Mose Grier Jr. of Albany, and Jacob Grier (Celia) of Leesburg, GA., one Uncle, Roosevelt Grier (Cydnee) of Los Angeles, CA., and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
