Sherry Jean General

Sherry “Jean” General was born on August 27, 1953 in Carnegie, Georgia to Jimmy Sr. and Louis General, who both preceded her in death.

Jean worked at The Piget for twenty-nine years until it closed. Then she retired from Andrew College in 2019.

She gave her life to the Lord at an early age and joined Big Bethel Baptist Church in Cuthbert, GA. She later moved her membership to Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church, where she served as an Usher until her health declined.

Sherry departed this life on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 at Piedmont Columbus Regional. She preceded in death by her parents, her son Tyrone General; her brothers, Rev. Arthur Murphy, Jimmy Jr. and Freddrick General; her sisters, Janis James and Eva Gibson.

Cherished memories are left to nieces she raised as her own, Latonia Darby (Nicole), Sheronda General, Sherrell Davis, all of Columbus, GA; great nieces, Tityanta Bridges and Jakavia Davis of Columbus, GA, and Jakarah Garrett of Cuthbert, GA; a great-great niece, Kelly Street of Columbus, GA; great nephew, Eric Thomas (April) of Raleigh, NC; sisters, Mary= Perry, Irene Burkes, Helen Davis, all of Cuthbert, GA, Grace General (Donald) of Columbus, GA, Ethel Mae Jackson of Atlanta, GA; brothers, Tracy General (Ann), Robert Sr. both of Largo, FL, Lamar General of Columbus, GA, Donnell General (Maria) of Ontario, CA; special nephews, DeJuan Garrett of Cuthbert, GA, Corderius Hudson of Moultrie, GA, and Benny Sealey; special friends, Betty Slaughter, Mary Davis.
