Walter Lee Cooper, better known as “Butch” or “Waldo”, was born October 29, 1950, in Cuthbert, GA to the late John Arthur and Minnie Mae Cooper. He departed this life on May 16, 2025. He is survived by two sons: Marquese Mitchell Cooper (Sharika) of Columbus, GA, Brian Cooper of Savannah, GA; Two grandchildren: Marquerious Mitchell and Journeigh Mitchell, and god-child, Nikae Coleman; One devoted sister, Essie Seymore (Johnny) of Cuthbert, GA; one brother, Mark Hart (Shirley) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Truly devoted nieces, Rhonda Harden (Randy) of Albany, GA, Pamela Townsend (Ervin) of Tyrone, GA, Gloria Parker and April Parker of Cuthbert, GA; One faithfully devoted nephew, Todd Odums (Tiffany) of Albany, GA, who made himself available anytime a need arose. Butch has a host of other nieces, nephews, and cousins whom he held dearly. One loving aunt, Willie Mae Harris of Atlanta, GA. In addition to family, Butch had many friends whom he cherished...Betty Jean Starling, Phyllis Garrett, Ethel Mae Coleman, Shirley Knighton, Demetrist Jackson, and Noami were among them. Apart from them, two special friends, Mary Price and Christine Gilbert greatly contributed to the joy in his life as they birthed his sons. Butch had many close male friends among whom are Will Thornton, Rickie Culbreath, and John Davis, Eckerd Davis and Choice Fillingame to name a few.
Three deceased brothers: John Henry Parker, Willie B. Cooper, and Victor Leon Cooper. Two deceased sisters: Patricia Ann Courtney, and Dollie Ann Cooper.
Butch was baptized at Enon Baptist Church in Clay County. Also, he attended services at Antioch Baptist Church in Randolph County. Butch may not have been a religious person, but he studied the Bible, believed in Jehovah God and Jesus Christ. Family was his first priority. Butch attended Henderson High School and graduated in the class of 1968. Afterward, he worked at Maroone Chevrolet in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, The Day Company in Cuthbert, GA. and Water Works in Columbus GA. In addition, he worked at the pool room in Cuthbert. Often, he would give special thanks to the nurses of Phoebe Home Care. Butch loved children, was well-known, and will truly, truly be missed.

* Wasn ’t a man of many words, but had a heart of gold

* Considered slower than a sloth when crossing the street
* Never said “Good by” when talking on the phone, just hung up on you.
* Attended every BBQ in Cuthbert, Shellman, Ft. Gaines and surrounding area
